#JOIN2019: How Marine Data Can Influence Policy and Ocean Interaction
#JOIN2019 Session No. 2: "Ocean of Data: Ocean of Mind" Humans have always relied on the ocean. Unprecedented changes in the ocean environment add increasing urgency to the need to gather and analyze ocean data — to measure the rate and type of change, to understand its impact and, ultimately, to improve how humans interact with this vital planetary resource. In this session, Dr. Paul Snelgrove of Memorial University of Newfoundland, a global leader in ocean science, will discuss how they collect, aggregate, and use marine data to understand the ocean and its influence on how we change human interaction with the ocean through evolving policy. He also shares novel approaches to data collection, the challenges of global data aggregation, and how ocean data can influence how we, as humans, approach our unique relationship with the sea.
